Ducking About: Day one of duckling incubation

I received my duck eggs for duckling incubation from a breeder based in West Wales via Royal Mail. Her own ducks feature heavily on her website and they’re truly beautiful. I was recommended that I should store the eggs point down for 24 hours before beginning incubation. This also gave me some time to set up the incubator in the vain hope that it would all function as required.

The incubator is fairly poor quality and I’m really disappointed. The thermostat is inaccurate and not even consistently so. I have a second thermometer inside that I bought to sit with the eggs. It’s reporting the incubator is lower in temperature than it should be most of the time. Secondly the humidity control is non-existent. Despite this I set the eggs, giving each a little air kiss and hoping for the best for my first ever duckling incubation.
